James Russell Woodford, Bishop of Ely, 1880. In 1869 he received a Doctorate in Divinity, and in 1872 was appointed one of the queen's chaplains. In 1873 he became Bishop of Ely; his consecration taking place in Westminster Abbey. He was instrumental in reconstructing the cathedral school at Ely, and also establishing the theological college at Ely.
