William Thomson, Archbishop of York, 1878. Before he graduated from the Queen's College, Oxford, he had practically completed a treatise called, Outlines of the Laws of Thought, published in 1842. Soon after the publication of his treatise he was ordained deacon and left Oxford to devote himself to clerical work. From Men of Mark: a gallery of contemporary portraits of men distinguished in the Senate, the Church, in science, literature and art, the army, navy, law, medicine, etc. Photographed from life by Lock and Whitfield, with brief biographical notices by Thompson Cooper. (Conducted by G. C. Whitfield.) (London, 1876-1883).
