James Fraser, Bishop of Manchester, 1878. Fraser taught at Oriel College, was a prebendary at Salisbury Cathedral, and wrote reports on education and the employment of women and children in agriculture. Gladstone appointed him Bishop of Manchester in 1870. From Men of Mark: a gallery of contemporary portraits of men distinguished in the Senate, the Church, in science, literature and art, the army, navy, law, medicine, etc. Photographed from life by Lock and Whitfield, with brief biographical notices by Thompson Cooper.
