The conversion of Lisbius, 1317. St Denis preaches and Lisbius is converted to Christianity. Manuscript illustration from a work on the life of St Denis (died c258 AD), written by Yves, a monk at the Abbey of St Denis. The book depicts the torture and martyrdom of the saint by the Roman governor Fescenninus Sisinnius. The lower part of each scene depicts people on the bridge over the River Seine. Here, a moneylender's shop, a goldsmith, a falconer, a porter and an armourer. From the collection of the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris.
