Parading of the flag of the French Foreign Legion, Sidi Bel Abbes, Algeria, 28 April 1906. The 2nd Regiment of Spahis arrive. The Spahis were regiments of cavalry raised in North Africa. Prior to 1914 there were four such regiments, three recruited in Algeria and one in Tunisia. Sidi Bel Abbes was the Foreign Legion's headquarters from 1931-1961.
