'Abou Simbel', Egypt, 19th century. View of the twin temples carved out of the rock overlooking the Nile by Rameses II in the 13th century BC. The temples were moved in their entirety in the 1960s to avoid the flooding of the valley behind the Aswan Dam. From the collection of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Paris.
