Heliopolis Obelisk, Egypt, 1878. The oldest standing Ancient Egyptian obelisk in existence, this example dates from the reign of the 12th Dynasty Pharaoh Senusret I, who ruled from 1971 to 1926 BC. It was one of a pair erected to commemorate the Heb Sed (30th Jubilee) of Senusret. From "Album of Photographs, Egypt", by Felix Bonfils, 1878.
