Colossal statue of Rameses I in situ, Memphis, Egypt, 13th century BC. Rameses I was the founder of the 19th Dynasty in Ancient Egypt. His rule was brief, from 1292 until 1290 BC, but Egypt would reach the height of its greatness under his son and grandson, Seti I and Rameses II.
