The throne of Tutankhamun, (detail), 14th century BC. The throne is gold-plated wood inlaid with semi-precious stones. The arms are in the form of a winged serpent. It was discovered in the pharaoh's tomb when it was opened by the British archaeologist Howard Carter in 1922. From the collection of the Egyptian National Museum, Cairo, Egypt.
