M le Myre de Vilers in Madagascar, 1894. Myre de Vilers attempted to bring about a reconciliation between the island's government and France. The following year, the French invaded Madagascar, starting the Second Franco-Hova War which brought the country under their colonial rule. A print from the "Le Petit Journal", 22nd October 1894.
