Assasination of Stefan Stambulov, Sofia, Bulgaria, 1895. A revolutionary and politician, Stambulov (1854-1895) was a popular figure regarded as one of the principal founders of the modern nation of Bulgaria. He was Prime Minister of Bulgaria from 1887-1894. His opposition to the policies of Prince Regnant Ferdinand led him to resign from office. Followers of Ferdinand attacked him on 3rd July 1895 and he died from his injuries three days later. An illustration from Le Petit Journal, 4th August 1895.
