Edward Everett, American Whig Party politician from Massachusetts, 1862-1867. Everett (1794-1865) unsuccessfully ran for Vice-President in the 1860 election. In 1863 he delivered a two hour oration at Gettysburg that was overshadowed by President Lincoln's famous address.
