Nathan Bedford Forrest, Confederate general, 1862-1867. A successful cavalry commander during the Civil War noted for his tactics of mobile warfare, Forrest (1821-1877) is possibly better known for his role in the establishment of the original Ku Klux Klan after the defeat of the South.
