Braxton Bragg, Confederate general, 1862-1867. Bragg (1817-1876) commanded the Army of Tennessee in the western theatre of the Civil War. He won a victory at the Battle of Chickamauga (September 1863), but after defeat at Chattanooga two months later he was relieved of field command and re-assigned as military advisor to Confederate President Jefferson Davis.
