John Alexander Logan, Union soldier and politician, 1862-1867. A member of the US House of Representatives before the Civil War, Logan (1826-1866) served as a general in the Union Army during the war, winning the Medal of Honor for his role in the capture of Vicksburg in 1863. After the war he resumed his political career, initially in the House of Representatives before later becoming a Senator for the state of Illinois. He ran unsuccessfully for Vice President in 1884.
