Wilhelm Liebknecht, 19th century German social democrat, (1903). Liebknecht (1826-1900) took part in the Baden Insurrection of 1848-1849 after which he fled into exile. He returned to Germany in 1862, becoming leader of the Saxon People's Party, and was elected to the Reichstag in 1867, becoming the first parliamentary representative of a left-wing party in Germany.
