Arthur Penrhyn Stanley, Dean of Westminster, c1890. Stanley (1815-1881) became dean in 1864. He was a great traveller and travelled extensively in Europe, America and Asia. Whilst at Westminster he was very keen that clergymen and laymen were given the opportunity to voice their opinions. He was eager that people should appreciate Westminster and its history as much as he did, and would conduct parties around the building. A lithograph from The Modern Portrait Gallery, Cassell, Petter and Calpin, London, Paris and New York, c1890.
