Mrs Furtado-Heine named Officer of the Legion of Honour, 1896. An illustration from "Le Petit Journal", 21st June 1896. Cecile Charlotte Furtado-Heine (1821-1896) was a prominent philanthropist. She equipped and maintained an ambulance service in Paris during the Franco-Prussian War, established a dispensary for sick children in one of the city's Jewish quarters and was a benefactor of the Pasteur Institute. In 1896 she funded the establishment of a children's hospital in Paris.
