St Genevieve, heroine of France, 1896. Saint Genevieve (419-512) is the patron saint of Paris. During the 5th century her prayers are said to have saved Paris by diverting the army of Attila the Hun. She is also said to have persuaded Childeric to allow her to take grain supplies to the city when his Frankish army was besieging Paris. An illustration from Le Petit Journal, 12th January 1896.
