Battle of Meluna, Greco-Turkish War, 1897. The Greco-Turkish War of 1897, also called the Thirty Days' War, began after Greece's nationalist government declared war on the Ottoman Empire after a rebellion broke out in January 1897 amongst the Greek population on the Turkish controlled island of Crete.
