The Anglo-Japanese Alliance, 1902. The alliance was agreed in 1902 and was to run for five years and be renewable. It was intended to counter the presumed menace posed to each power by Russia, seen in this cartoon in allegorical form together with France watching the alliance being concluded. An illustration from Le Petit Journal, 6th April 1902.
