The 13th Dalai Lama fleeing the British invasion of Tibet, 1904. The British invaded Tibet and occupied Lhasa after a series of disputes over the border between Sikkim and Tibet. The British were concerned that the Russians were trying to bring Tibet within their sphere of influence. The Dalai Lama fled to Mongolia. An illustration from Le Petit Journal, 20th November 1904.
