General Dragomirov kisses the flag before troops depart for the Russo-Japanese War, 1904. A general and prominent military writer, Mikhail Ivanovich Dragomirov (1830-1905) was unable to serve at the front during the conflict due to his advancing age and ill health, although the Russian general headquarters frequently sought his advice on the conduct of the war.
