Polychrome plate with incised landscape decoration, Guangxu period, Qing dynasty, China, 1890s. The interior of this plate is white with incised decoration on top of the glaze depicting the West Lake. The back is overglaze polychrome famille rose enamels of bamboo and passion fruit, vines and butterflies all on a deep blue ground. The particular colour combinbation here was the favourite colour scheme of the Empress Dowager Cixi.
