One of a pair of Satsuma 5-lobed petal shaped bowls, Meiji period, Japan, 1890. A pair of Satsuma five lobed petal shaped bowls, each beautifully decorated in gold and coloured enamels. The exterior of each bowl has two groups of autumn maple fronds which extend down from the gold covered edge. The interior of one has a goose and iris in a landscape, the other has two pheasants on maple with mountains and pavilions in the distance. The base has a seal mark with characters that say 'Satsuma' and comb decoration round the base rim.
