'The Distribution of the Eagle Standards, 5th December 1804', (1900). This ceremony was arranged by Napoleon after he assumed power as Emperor of France. Standards similar to those carried by Roman legions were awarded to the army regiments raised by the Departements of France. David's original painting of the event was produced in 1808-1810.
