'Sterne and Death'. 1768. Portrait of Irish-born author and clergyman Laurence Sterne (1713-1768) who is best known for his novels "The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman", and "A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy". Sterne died in London after suffering years of tuberculosis. Illustration from "Social Caricature in the Eighteenth Century ...
