Thomas Sydenham, 17th century English physician, (c1850). Sydenham (1624-1689) has been described as the father of English medicine. He was the first to use laudanum as a medication, iron to treat anaemia and popularised the use of quinine for malaria patients. Taken from the book Old England's Worthies. (London, c1850).
