Prince George, Duke of Cambridge, chief of the British Army, 19th century. A cousin of Queen Victoria, the Duke of Cambridge (1819-1904) commanded a division in the Crimean War of 1853-1856 and was present at Alma and Inkerman. Promoted to the rank of Field Marshal in 1862, he became Commander-in-Chief of the British army in 1887.
