'The idle 'prentice turn'd away and sent to sea', plate V of 'Industry and Idleness', 1833. Early 19th century version of a scene from Hogarth's series of 1747; the master is obliged to get rid of the idle 'prentice, who is sent to sea in the hope that discipline on board ship will reform him. The apprentice is rowed past Cuckold's Point to some ships moored off the Isle of Dogs. A gibbet can be seen in distance.
