Flood damage on the Victoria Embankment, London, 1928 (1936). On 7 January 1928, 14 people were drowned and thousands were made homeless when flood waters poured over the top of the Thames Embankment. It was the last major flood to affect central London and led to the implementation of new flood control measures, culminating in the construction of the Thames Barrier in the 1970s.
