Tree of Jesse and Virgin and Child enthroned, c1130-1140. The Tree of Jesse, flanked by Abraham and Moses, and the Virgin and Child enthroned, within an architectural framework. An abbess kneels at the Virgin's feet, probably the Abbess of Shaftesbury who commissioned the Shaftesbury Psalter from which the images are taken. Illustration from Illuminated Manuscripts in the British Museum, Miniatures, Borders, and Initials by George F Warner, series III, (British Museum, London, 1899).
