Thomas Wolsey, 16th century English cardinal and statesman, (1825). Wolsey (c1475-1530) was Henry VIII's most important government minister and the most powerful person in England, besides the King, for many years. He was actively involved in the diplomatic efforts to obtain approval for the ending of Henry's marriage to Catherine of Aragon. From Memoirs of the Court of Queen Elizabeth, published in 1825.
