Nazi memorial ceremony for President von Hindenburg, Court of Honour, Tannenberg, 7th August 1934. Field Marshal Paul von Hindenburg (1847-1934) served as Germany's president from 1925 until his death. Tannenberg was the site of his great victory over the Russians in the early days of World War I. With Hindenburg dead, Hitler was able to assume absolute power as Fuehrer (leader) and Chancellor of Germany.
