Robert Curthose's monument, Gloucester Cathedral, Gloucestershire. This monument, in coloured bog oak, is of Robert Curthose, eldest son of William the Conqueror, and a prominent benefactor of the Abbey of Gloucester. He died in 1134 in Cardiff Castle where he had been imprisoned by his younger brother, Henry I of England, who had succeeded William II as King while Robert was absent on the First Crusade.
