Crossraguel Abbey, Maybole, South Ayrshire, Scotland, 1924-1926. Crossraguel was a Cluniac monastery founded in 1244. It was sacked by the army of Edward I of England in 1307. The monastery was rebuilt on a larger scale, but closed in 1560 when the Reformation ended monasticism in Scotland. A print from Hutchinson's Britain Beautiful, edited by Walter Hutchinson, volume I, 1924-1926.
