Electrostatic machines, 1819. Dr van Marum's machine and Mr Reid's improved machine. In the 1780s Dutch scientist Martin van Marum built his 'electriseermachine' for use in electrical experiments. It also entertained visitors to the Teylers museum in Haarlem. John Read developed a rotating doubler electrostatic generator in the 1790s.
