Riber Castle, near Matlock, Derbyshire. Built as a home by the Derbyshire industrialist and philanthropist John Smedley in 1862, the building later became a preparatory school then a food store for the Ministry of Defence. From the 1960s until 2000, it was home to a zoo and nature reserve. The future of the site is, at present, uncertain.
