WACS emerging after gas chamber training, Fort Sheridan, Illinois, USA, 1964. Fort Sheridan was a US Army base on the shores of Lake Michigan just north of Chicago. The base closed in 1993. The Women's Army Corps (WAC) of the US Army was established in 1943.
