The Market, Leptis Magna, Libya. The ruins of the city of Leptis Magna is one of the most spectacular Roman sites in the Mediterranean. The market was built in 9-8 BC, but was rebuilt and enlarged over 200 years later as part of the substantial building programme ordered by the Emperor Septimius Severus, who was born in Leptis Magna.
