'Portrait of Monsieur and Madame Auguste Manet', 1860 (1938). Auguste Manet (1797-1862) held important posts in the legal administration, becoming a chevalier of the Legion of Honour and a judge. He married Eugenie Desiree Fournier who gave him three sons, Edouard (1832-83), Eugene (1833-92) and Gustave (1835-84). Auguste Manet became partially paralysed in 1858, two years before Manet painted this portrait. Found in the collection of the Musee d'Orsay, Paris, France.
