Cobbling, Earlswood Asylum, Reigate, 1904. Opened in 1848, the Royal Earlswood Hospital was an asylum for people with learning difficulties, or 'idiots' as they were described at the time. Patients were taught various manual trades. A print from Social England, edited by HD Traill and JS Mann, volume VI. (Cassell and Company Limited, London, 1904).
