'Rock Cut Temple, Ellora', Maharashtra, India, 1878. Ellora is famous for its rock temples, a series of caves carved out of the rocky hillside, one and a quarter miles long, in three sections: Buddhist, Brahmanical and Jain. They date from the 5th to the 10th century. Figures are dwarfed by the size of the pillars.
