View of the south front of York Watergate, Buckingham Street, Westminster, London, 1887. Built in 1626, this watergate gave access to the Thames from York House, a mansion on the Strand. The building of the Thames Embankment in the 1860s left it 150 yards from the river, in Embankment Gardens.
