Holker Hall, Cumbria, home of the Duke of Devonshire, c1880. The house was inherited in 1834 by Wiliam Cavendish, 2nd Earl of Burlington, who had it remodelled between 1838 and 1842. A print from A Series of Picturesque Views of Seats of the Noblemen and Gentlemen of Great Britain and Ireland, edited by Reverend FO Morris, Volume VI, William Mackenzie, London, c1880. Wood-engraved plates after paintings by Benjamin Fawcett and Alexander Francis Lydon.
