Plan of the Battle of Bunker Hill, Boston, Massachusetts, 1775 (c1880). Showing the first and second positions of the troops. Although the British won the battle, they suffered heavy casualties and were unable to break the rebel siege of Boston. The battle proved that the Colonial militia was capable of standing up to the British regular army.
