Attack on the Pequot Fort, 1637 (c1880). The Pequot were a Native American tribe who inhabited much of what is now Connecticut in the 17th century. They came into conflict with English settlers leading to a war in which the colonists and their Native American allies, the Mohegan and Narragansett, killed 1500 Pequot, and captured and enslaved many others.
