Great Ziggurat of Ur, Iraq, 1977. Ziggurats were temple towers of terraced pyramid form built by the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia. The example at the Sumerian city of Ur was built by King Ur-Nammu around the 21st century BC and was dedicated to the moon god Nanna.
