Temple of the Sibitti, Khorsabad, Iraq, 1977. Khorsabad was the site of Dur Sharrukin, the capital city of the Assyrian Empire in the late 8th century BC during the reign of Sargon II. The city was abandoned after Sargon was killed in 705 BC and his son, Sennacherib, moved the capital to Nineveh.
