Freedom Monument, Riga, Latvia. The Freedom Monument in Riga was unveiled in 1935 during Latvia's period on independence between the two World Wars. It became a symbol of resistance to Soviet occupation and the site of gatherings as Latvians began to agitate for independence from the Soviet Union in the 1980s.
